Random thoughts on the health care debate:

I knew the bill was dangerous when all I heard from the proponents was that the current system is messed up. That kind of logic going into the bill is a bright red flag. Changing a bad situation doesn't mean you'll make it better! This is like using Lysol on raw chicken instead of cooking it to eliminate the bacteria. It's the wrong fix, and we'll suffer greatly from it.

Tonight all I heard from the liberals was "We're doing the right thing!" Reeeally? And you're a great sorcerer. And I'm the king of Cashmere. (~Madmartigan, Willow) A statement that bland isn't even an argument. This is a lame attempt to gain support by easing people's consciences through unaccounted moral support -- empty assurance at it's best.

Pelosi's laugh is unprofessional and unnerving. I must photoshop her head onto Dolores Umbridge.

"Americans will come to remember this day!" You bet they will. Only they won't care about your "justice" and whatnot; when the country is in an even worse situation than it is now, they will remember this day and despise you for it.

"Climate change" on the radio this morning ...

As near as I can remember:

"What we're dealing with is climate change..."
"Change?"
"That's right."
"So as soon as it stopped warming, it became 'change'?"
"Look, what I'm trying to say is the climate's changing..."
"Of course it is."
"The temperature is..."
"If the climate never changed, it wouldn't be climate."
"When..."
"If the temperature was always the same, we'd have no concept of temperature!"
"Okay, but when the planet's conditions are altered..."
"Uh-huh..."
"...and the temperature is gradually rising over..."
"It's cold out."
"Mike..."
"More people die from the cold than from the heat!"
"And even more die from tsunamis."
"Tsunamis have nothing to do with this!"
"Listen..."
"Tsunamis are caused by a shift in the Earth's crust..."
"...the plates change, exactly..."
"They don't change because of the temperature..."
"Right, it's because of earthquakes."
"Yeah."
"What I'm getting at is..."
"Earthquakes don't happen because the earth heats up!"
"No, I'm just saying that the world changes..."
"Yeah, but..."
"...and we..."
"Listen, Nick... It's getting colder! So shut up!"

My brother: historical encyclopedia and practical joker.

My younger brother sure pulled a fast one on me today. I was in the basement playing Solar Jetman when he walked into the room with an expressionless face and a sullen tone, informing me that it's become awfully easy to assassinate people. I thought he was bringing grave, political news that I had failed to hear because I was downstairs playing video games; immediately pausing the game, I turned to face him and demanded to know what had happened. "BANG!" he yelled, pointing his finger at me.

I've been avoiding direct politics within T.H.I.N.G., but that doesn't mean I haven't been following the issues. With all that's been going on lately, I was somewhere between worried and exasperated at the thought of an assassination. Man! I don't think my brother had any idea what was shooting through my mind as he did that. Well, I'm grateful that it was a false alarm.

Hey, Obama's Tux Cat's are still all I've truly mentioned here about the election. Hooray for me!

Obama's Economic Plan

During the debate last night I thought I heard one of the candidates misspeak, swapping the vowels in "tax cuts." I suddenly got the idea for this picture:

Ah, the digital age of political cartoons... Don't worry, I do not intend for this to become a hobby. I just thought this would be funny. Feel free to spread this around; maybe by the end of the election the internet will be littered with it. I wonder how it feels to be responsible for for the mass presence of something like this...

Sims' City

If we have any freak hurricanes, floods, or monster attacks, I'll blame this guy for turning "disaster mode" on.

Energy Crisis

The issue of our energy crisis was, naturally, brought up in tonight's Republican convention. This reminded me of another tidbit from chemistry class this afternoon, when Dr. F related reacting atoms to teenage relationships.

He said that atoms bond, bonds break, and new bonds are formed, kind of like when a girl breaks up with one guy and hooks up with another. And, as I commented at that point, that releases a lot of energy!

Forget oil drilling, we just need to find a way to harness this.
